The beautiful Gold Coast is known the world over for its pristine beaches. Take the time out of your busy holiday itinerary and visit some of the Gold Coast’s best beaches for water sports, surfing or perhaps just to take in the magnificent sunsets.
Good for: Relaxing right by the hotel
For a relaxing day on the beach, look no further than the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast’s Mirage Beach. An endless stretch of powdery white sand, with beautiful views and virtually no crowds make for a truly relaxing beach. Lie down on the sand and get a beautiful tan, swim in the warm waters or simply watch the stunning sunset. Children will enjoy playing on the beach and building sandcastles.
Good for: An exciting day out
One of the most popular beaches on the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise is truly a paradise, and not just for surfers. Offering a beautiful three kilometre coastline, the beach is perfect for a fun-filled day. Shop at the boutiques nearby before indulging in the scrumptious seafood at the cafes and restaurants. Try out some unique experiences such as the 7D cinema, the adrenaline-booster Slingshot ride or the Infinity attraction. Head to Surfers Paradise on Wednesday, Friday or Sunday evening and browse the charming art pieces, gifts and fresh produce at the beachfront markets. Or simply lie down on the beach and relax.
Good for: Water-based activities and attractions
Just steps away from Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort is the Gold Coast’s Main Beach. Enjoy a cold drink at the bathing pavilion, a heritage-listed changing room, built from 1934 to 1978. Visit Sea World and watch the marine animals up close. Those who prefer to be on the water can choose from a range of water sports such as water skiing, jet skiing and speed boat tours.
Good for: Family fun
Known for the widest expanse of sand on the Gold Coast and the adjoining parkland area, Broadbeach is a wonderful location to spend a family day. Children will have the time of their lives at the Kurrawa Pratten Park, while adults can enjoy the beach or shop at the nearby Oasis Shopping Centre. Other water sports on offer such as kayaking and canoeing are perfect for those seeking more water adventures on the trip. With picnic areas, barbecue pits and a children’s playground around, Broadbeach is truly one of the best beaches on the Gold Coast for the whole family to enjoy.
Good for: Biking and family outings
Named in 1946, Mermaid Beach is located just south of the town centre and is a favourite amongst bikers on the Gold Coast. Significantly quieter than Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach offers tranquil surroundings interspersed with sheltered picnic areas, children’s playground and an expansive network of bike tracks. Embark on an exciting adventure around Mermaid Beach as you go on the bike trail and explore the surrounding nature. Ask our Concierge for information or assistance on renting bikes.
Good for: Surfing
Those looking to explore a beach off the beaten track should head down to Coolangatta’s Kirra Beach. Known by surfers far and wide as one of the best beaches on the Gold Coast for surfing, Kirra Beach is inundated with the city’s most experienced surfers tackling the most challenging waves. Still a beginner? The smaller waves breaking closer to the shoreline are beginner friendly. The best waves are to be found around cyclone season, between November and April, although good waves are present all year round. Those wanting a different kind of adventure can head over to the Kirra Reef Dive Site for snorkelling or scuba diving to explore the corals and colourful marine life under the sea.
